Thiruvananthapuram: The Personal and Administrative Reforms department has issued instructions stating that all boards used in offices should be displayed in Malayalam and English. One half of the boards should be in Malayalam and the other in English. Vehicle boards should have Malayalam on the front and English plates at the rear, both in the same size.

In a circular, the Department of Administrative Reforms (Official language) has issued strict instructions to ensure the use of Malayalam as the administrative language. Office seals and post seals containing names and official titles of officers should also be in Malayalam. All the registers in offices like attendance books, suit registers, etc, and official files should also be in Malayalam. 

File proceedings should entirely be in Malayalam except in the seven situations stipulated in the government’s previous orders regarding the use of the official language, and in cases where minority languages like Tamil and Kannada need to be used. When preparing letters in English/ minority languages, the note file should be in Malayalam. 

Advertisements for Malayalam dailies and tender forms must also use Malayalam as the medium.
