Thiruvananthapuram: Veteran actress Sarada has been selected for the 2024 JC Daniel Award, the highest honour in Malayalam cinema, recognising her lifetime contribution to the film industry. The award was announced on Friday (January 16).
The JC Daniel Award is the Kerala government’s highest recognition in cinema. It carries a cash prize of ₹5 lakh, a citation and a sculpture, and will be presented on January 25.
Career spanning over 150 films
Sarada was born on June 12, 1945, in Tenali, Madras, in British India. She has acted in more than 150 films across languages. Her first Malayalam film was Inapravukal.
She won the Urvashi Award for her performance in the Malayalam film Thulabharam in 1968 and again for Swayamvaram in 1972. In 1977, she received the same award for her role in the Telugu film Nimajjanam.
