Kochi: Martin Antony, the second accused in the actress assault case, has approached the High Court seeking to quash his conviction. In his petition, he contends that he was merely a driver and had no role in the commission of the crime.

The petition states that he was not present in the vehicle at the time the offence was committed and argues that the alleged conspiracy has not been proved. It further points out that the charges levelled against him are identical to those framed against the eighth accused, actor Dileep, who was acquitted. On this basis, Martin Antony has sought the same relief extended to Dileep.

The prosecution had earlier established charges, including gang rape, against Pulsar Suni, Martin Antony, B. Manikandan, V. P. Vijeesh, H. Salim (Vadiwal Salim) and Pradeep. The trial court sentenced these accused to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment.

Following the conviction, Martin Antony and the other accused are currently lodged in jail.
