Alappuzha: The Food Safety Department and the Fisheries Department are undertaking strict and regular inspection at fish markets. During the inspection conducted at the Kollakadavu Commission market in Chengannur, 90 kg of stale and formalin mixed fish was seized on Wednesday. 50 kg of ‘Emperor fish’ (Vila meen) and 40 kg of ‘Mangrove red snapper’ (Chemballi) that were 10 days old were destroyed.
Notice has been given to three persons who possessed stale fish. The fish, which was delivered in 11 lorries from various places, was examined. The inspection was also carried out in Aroor and Chandirur areas but no stale fish was found.
On Tuesday, 92 kg of ‘Yellowfin Tuna fish’ (Kera Meen) and 7 kg of tilapia were seized from the Alappuzha Vazhicherry market. Two squads have been formed for this in Alappuzha.
