Kozhinjampara (Palakkad): An eight-year-old girl, Sana Asbi, from Palakkad died after being bitten by a snake while sleeping in a one-room shed early Tuesday morning. The incident took place around 1:30 am.
The girl was sleeping on a mat in a one-room shed along with her grandmother, Rahmath (45). Rahmath, who was also bitten by the snake, was the first to react, causing a commotion that alerted nearby family members and neighbors. Catching sight of the snake they quickly rushed Rahmath to Chittoor Taluk Hospital for treatment.
Sana, who had been with her grandmother at the time of the attack, was also taken to the hospital. However, after arriving at the hospital around 2:30 am, Sana suddenly collapsed and began vomiting. Examination revealed that she, too, had been bitten by the snake. Despite efforts to treat her, the girl could not be saved.
The Kozhinjampara police conducted an inquest and later transferred the body to the district hospital mortuary for a post-mortem. Sana's body was handed over to her relatives afterward.
Sana was a fourth-standard student at Government Lower Primary School in Kunnankattupathy. She is survived by her younger sister, Asma Taslin.
