A locked house in Kannur’s Kuttur was burgled while residents were away for Eid, with 62 sovereign of gold stolen.

Mathamangalam (Kannur): A locked house in Kuttur was broken into, and 62 sovereign of gold was stolen, police said. The incident took place at Nafisa Manzil, the residence of VU Nafisa.
Nafisa and her son had travelled to their house in Ancharakandi to celebrate Eid. The theft came to light when they returned home on Tuesday.
According to the police, the intruder gained entry by breaking open a door near the well at the rear of the house. The rooms inside the house had not been locked.
The gold ornaments had been stored in a bag inside a cupboard in one of the rooms. The cupboard was forced open. The gold was taken from the bag, which was later found abandoned inside the room. Household items were found scattered across the room. The back door of the house had also been damaged during the break-in.
Payyannur DySP K. Shaiju and other police officers visited the spot. A forensic team, including fingerprint experts, carried out an inspection. A police dog squad was also deployed at the scene.
Police said a special investigation team would be constituted the following day. CCTV cameras in the surrounding areas were examined as part of the probe.
