Thiruvananthapuram: A Judicial Magistrate Court on Saturday sentenced CPM state committee members A.A. Rahim MP and M. Swaraj to one-year imprisonment in a case related to violence during an education strike in 2010.
The court also slapped a fine of Rs 7700 on each of them.
AA Rahim MP and M. Swaraj have been pronounced guilty in the case related to violence during protests against the education policy of the Oommen Chandy government.
The Thiruvananthapuram Judicial First Class Magistrate Court has found both guilty, citing charges of destroying barricades and obstructing vehicular movement.
The case is related to the education policies of the Oommen Chandy government, with the SFI (Students Federation of India) leading protests in front of the secretariat. Amidst the strike, there was destruction of police barricades and disruption of vehicular movement. The Museum Police filed a case in 2010, and the court has found the accused guilty of charges including destruction of public property.
