Thiruvananthapuram: The two workers were trapped beneath loose soil while laying drainage pipes in Sreekariyam on Sunday.

Fortunately, Vinayan, an Ayirupara native, and Deepak, hailing from Bihar, were rescued in a combined operation led by the fire force and locals.

The incident occurred around 10 a.m. The soil mound is said to have fallen on top of the workers while they were laying the pipes at a depth of 15 feet. The trapped workers were rescued after a four-hour-long operation.

Although the rescuers were able to save Vinayan quickly, it took a long time to bring Deepak out.  30 fire brigade personnel took part in the operation to rescue Deepak.

Doctors arrived on the scene and administered the necessary first aid. Deepak's condition is said to be not serious.
