Kollam: A tenth standard student died on Tuesday after she jumped into a well in Puthoor. 15-year-old Neelima killed herself in the presence of her parents. Head injury during the jump caused the death, a preliminary inquest showed.

Tuesday was the annual day celebration of her school. However, the students of the tenth standard were not allowed to attend as there are only a few days left for the public examinations. But Neelima and her two other friends had left for school in the morning.

The locals who saw Neelima and her friends in the vicinity of the school informed the teachers. Following this, the teachers took the children to school by car. The parents were summoned to school and later the children left with them.

On the way back home, Neelima jumped into the well in the residential premises of one of her relatives. The cause of suicide still remains inexplicit. Police have recorded the statements of Neelima's friends and teachers and initiated a probe into the death.
