Idukki : A 12-year-old girl was killed after being struck by lightning at Uruvapara, police said on Saturday.

The victim, Nafeesathul Misriya, daughter of Afsal, hailed from Cheruvelikkunnu near Perumbavoor in Ernakulam district.

According to officials, Misriya had come to Uruvapara with her family on Friday evening to attend ‘Summerfest’, a tourism event, when the lightning strike occurred. Two others were also injured in the incident.

She was rushed to a nearby private hospital but was declared dead on arrival. The injured are currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Thodupuzha.

Police have registered a case of unnatural death and launched an investigation. The body will be handed over to the family after the postmortem, officials added.
