Adoor: The police on Thursday nabbed the prime accused in connection with the smuggling of 105 kilogram of ganja in Tamil Nadu. The accused has been identified as Adoor native Ajmal (27). He was nabbed amid a joint effort by the Adoor and Tamil Nadu police. The ganja was seized by the Tamil Nadu police from the Tenkasi Sivagiri checkpost on the Kollam - Tirumangalam route on Saturday (October 7). 

Two other accused namely Tamil Nadu native Muruganandam (29) and Ernakulam native Bashir were arrested by the police on Saturday itself. Subsequently, Ajmal’s involvement in the crime came to light and the Tamil Nadu police sought Adoor police’ assistance to nab him. Following this, Ajmal was nabbed from his hiding place in Elamannoor, Pathanamthitta. 

It is learnt that Ajmal, accused in another case, had been served a jail term of eight months in Viyyur Central Jail and was released in January this year. He was arrested by a team of officers led by Adoor CI S Sreekumar. Meanwhile, an investigation is also underway to find those who gave financial assistance to the accused. 

According to Kerala -Tamil Nadu police officers, there are huge drug sale rackets operating in the states under the guise of vegetable and fruit sales. Joint action is being taken against them, officials said.
