Kollam: Around 10,750 kilograms of rotten and moldy fish were seized from multiple vehicles at the Aryankavu check post on Saturday. The fish was brought to Kerala in large quantities at the onset of trolling restrictions in the state. Around 6000 kg of 'Chura' fish was seized during the raid. 

The fish was found during a raid conducted as part of 'Operation Malsya', a project by the Food Safety Department aiming to nab offenders behind the sale of rotten and chemical-laced fish in the state. 

Meanwhile, the fish seized from two vehicles emitted a foul smell. During subsequent test, chemicals were found in fish to trick officials into assuming it was fresh. The samples collected during the raid were sent to Kochi for further testing.  

Food Safety officials said that inspections would continue in the state. The fish was brought from Nagapatinam and Cuddalore areas in Tamil Nadu to markets in Pathanamthitta, Kollam and Thiruvananthapuram districts.
