Bengaluru: A woman has alleged that she was harassed and physically assaulted by an auto driver in Bengaluru after she cancelled a ride booked through a mobile app. The incident occurred on Wednesday when she and her friend booked two autos on Ola.
According to her account shared on social media platform 'X', the altercation began after her friend cancelled her ride upon the woman's arrival. The driver of the cancelled auto allegedly followed them, furious about the cancellation. Despite attempts to explain the situation, the driver reportedly started shouting and hurling abuses.
The woman further alleged that the driver verbally assaulted them, made derogatory comments, and became more aggressive when she started recording the incident. When she threatened to report him, the driver allegedly challenged her, showing no fear of consequences. The situation escalated when he attempted to snatch her phone and slapped her in front of bystanders and her auto driver, who did not intervene. She claimed the driver continued his threats, including saying he would beat her with his slippers.
Responding to the incident, Additional Director General of Police Traffic and Road Safety, Alok Kumar, assured that appropriate action would be taken, noting that such behavior was unacceptable and tarnished the reputation of the auto drivers' community.
Ola also responded to the woman's post, stating that the incident "sounds quite alarming" and promised to investigate the matter. PTI
