Bengaluru: Another case of moral policing has been reported in Bengaluru. A video showing a group of unidentified individuals confronting a young man and woman sitting together has gone viral on social media. In the video, the group can be seen asking the woman to remove her burqa and reveal her name. They also question the man for being in the company of a Muslim woman.
Despite the woman's repeated pleas to let them go, the harassment continues. The group can be heard threatening them, saying, “People from our community will be here soon. Until then, stay right here.”
This is the second such incident reported in Bengaluru this month. Just two days ago, another couple sitting together in a park was similarly confronted. The attackers reportedly began harassing them after learning that they belonged to different religious communities.
“You should be ashamed. Don’t you know she’s from another religion? How dare you talk to her in a public place?” one of the attackers is heard saying in the earlier video. The woman was also questioned aggressively: “Do your parents know where you are and who you're with?” Following a complaint filed by the woman, police have taken five individuals into custody. One of them is a minor.
