New Delhi: Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke on Wednesday appealed to climate activist Sonam Wangchuk to end his indefinite hunger strike, saying the movement for examination justice would continue until its demands are met.

The Cockroach Janta Party, in a post on X, shared an open letter to Wangchuk, urging him to prioritise his health while assuring him that the protest would continue.

The letter read, “With great respect and gratitude, we request you to please end your fast. Your sacrifice has inspired thousands of students across the country. On 20th July, young people travelled from different states to stand with you and this movement. You have shown that this fight is bigger than any one person and that students deserve justice. But right now, we need you to take care of your health.”

It further said, “We promise that this struggle will not end with your fast. We will continue the protests and take this fight forward until our demands for examination justice are met. We will do everything we can to keep it moving.”

Sharing the letter, Dipke wrote, "The country needs him, and his life is far too precious to be put at further risk. The peaceful protest at Jantar Mantar will continue until our demands are met."

Wangchuk had earlier said he would end his fast if Members of Parliament and leaders of political parties assured him that the issue of accountability in the education sector would be taken up during the ongoing Monsoon Session of Parliament.

However, after the Delhi Police cracked down on protesters during the Cockroach Janta Party's "Sansad Chalo" march, Wangchuk announced that he would continue his fast until such an assurance was given.

The climate activist joined the CJP-led protest at Jantar Mantar on June 28 and began an indefinite hunger strike in support of students demanding accountability over alleged examination irregularities, reforms in the education system and the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

Wangchuk was forcefully shifted by Delhi Police to Safdarjung Hospital on July 18 and was later moved to Medanta Hospital following a Delhi High Court order.

The CJP's "Sansad Chalo" march on Monday saw thousands of protesters march towards Parliament, demanding Pradhan's resignation over the alleged NEET paper leak. Police used tear gas and carried out a lathi charge after protesters breached security barricades near Jantar Mantar.
