Tamil Nadu: Actor Vijay’s political party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) on Friday, has announced its decision to boycott the upcoming Erode (East) bypoll scheduled to take place on February 5. The party joins the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) in declining to participate in the election.
In a statement, TVK’s General Secretary N Anand expressed the party’s concerns over the fairness of the electoral process.
"Past history has made us realise that in Tamil Nadu, the ruling government typically resorts to muscle power, without adhering to democratic principles, in order to secure a bypoll victory," Anand said.
He further clarified that TVK would not be offering support to any political party in the Erode (East) bypoll, a position that mirrors their stance during the Vikravandi bypoll.
