Actor-politician Vijay to visit Karur on Oct 17 to meet families affected by the stampede during his rally. Strict security measures planned.

Karur: Actor-turned-politician Vijay is expected to meet the families affected by the tragic stampede during his October 17 rally in Karur. Sources involved in the planning told India Today that the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) leader's visit will be conducted under stringent security arrangements, following a formal request from the party for crowd control and safety measures.
The exact location of the interaction is yet to be finalised. Officials, along with TVK leaders, have ruled out door-to-door visits due to concerns over potential chaos and unmanageable crowds.
Zero-tolerance security plan in place
Tamil Nadu Police, responding to TVK's request, have confirmed that extensive security arrangements are being put in place. The security strategy will begin the moment Vijay lands at Trichy Airport and continue through his journey to Karur.
The plan includes:
Checkpoint-based crowd monitoring
Mobile patrol units along the convoy route
Traffic diversions to create a secure corridor
Armed police presence at airport entry and exit points
Coordination with airport authorities is also underway to ensure swift and safe transit from the aircraft to Vijay’s convoy, with minimal public exposure.
Restricted venue and controlled access
The meeting venue in Karur will operate under a one-kilometre security cordon, with access strictly limited to pre-approved family members of the stampede victims. Entry and exit will be verified and monitored by police personnel, ensuring that no unauthorised person gain access to the site.
TVK has requested that media access be restricted during the meeting to maintain privacy and avoid crowding.
