Chennai: The much anticipated Vande Metro train is on track to debut soon, as confirmed by officials from the Perambur Integral Coach Factory (ICF), the rail coach manufacturer overseeing its production.
ICF officials anticipate that trial runs will commence shortly, with service expected to start by the end of June or the beginning of July. Reports suggest that the inaugural Vande Metro journey will be from Chennai to Tirupati.
Comprising 12 coaches, the Vande Metro combines elements of the AC Mainline Electrical Multiple Unit (MEMU) and the Vande Bharat Express. It is slated to operate at speeds ranging from 110 to 130 kilometres per hour.
The train's air-conditioned carriages will feature automatic door operation, while sealed gangways will facilitate seamless movement between coaches. Each coach is designed to accommodate seating for 100 passengers, with standing room available for an additional 200 travellers.
Notable amenities onboard include panoramic windows, mobile charging points, route indicator displays, CCTV cameras, emergency talkback units, and upgraded lavatories.
The train will be equipped with the KAVACH anti-collision system.
