The proscribed United Liberation Front of Asom (Independent) or ULFA(I) on Sunday claimed its camps along the Myanmar border were targeted by drone attacks carried out by the Indian Army. However, the Indian armed forces have stated they have no information to confirm such an operation.

In a press statement, the ULFA(I) asserted that the drone attacks occurred in the early hours at several of its mobile camps. The insurgent group further claimed that a senior leader was killed in these assaults, and approximately 19 other members were injured.

When contacted for confirmation, Defence Spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Mahendra Rawat told PTI, "There are no inputs with the Indian Army of such an operation," denying any knowledge of the alleged incident.

Earlier in the day, the outfit's claims made headlines in some northeast media channels. The reportage claimed that the strikes took place at dawn and involved the use of over 100 unmanned aerial vehicles targeting rebel hideouts in Myanmar’s Sagaing Region, specifically in the Naga Self-Administered Zone, close to the India-Myanmar border.

The reports further claimed that one of the primary targets was ULFA-I's 779 Camp located at Waktham Basti. A separate, more intense strike reportedly hit ULFA-I's Eastern Command Headquarters at Hoyat Basti. Unverified reports indicated that senior ULFA-I commander Nayan Medhi, alias Nayan Asom, may have been killed. He is believed to have played a central role as a military strategist and trainer within the banned outfit.

The media reports also claimed that drone strikes were also launched on several NSCN(K) positions in the surrounding area. According to intelligence inputs cited in media reports, there may have been multiple casualties among their ranks, though no official confirmation was issued.

Citing sources, the reports asserted that the Indian Army may have coordinated the mission with the Myanmar military. However, both Indian Army and the Myanmar government have officially denied conducting any joint operation.
