New Delhi: Two members of the notorious Rohit Godara–Goldy Brar–Virender Charan gang, allegedly assigned to kill stand-up comedian and reality show winner Munawar Faruqi along with other high-profile people, were arrested after a dramatic gunfight with Delhi Police on Thursday.

The suspects — Rahul (29) from Panipat and Sahil (37) from Bhiwani, Haryana — were intercepted on the Jaitpur-Kalindi Kunj Road by a special team of the Delhi Police Special Cell’s Counter Intelligence Unit, following specific intelligence inputs about their movement.

According to police officials, the duo opened fire when asked to surrender, prompting retaliatory action. Both were shot in the legs and subsequently overpowered by the police. They were taken to a hospital for treatment. Police seized their motorcycle and recovered firearms from their possession.

"A professional trap was laid after intelligence indicated the movement of the two shooters in the Jaitpur-Kalindi Kunj area. Considering the strong apprehension that they were armed and aggressive, our team moved in to apprehend them. In the exchange of fire, both were injured but overpowered," the officer said.

Munawar Faruqi among prime targets

Investigations have revealed that the two men were acting on instructions from gangster Rohit Godara, who operates from abroad and is closely linked to Canada-based gangster Goldy Brar and absconding criminal Virender Charan. The gang is believed to be working to expand its presence by targeting celebrities and influencers.

Police said that the duo had conducted reconnaissance missions in Mumbai and Bengaluru to track Faruqi’s movements. Faruqi, who won Bigg Boss in 2024 and commands a massive following of over 14 million on Instagram, has reportedly been on the radar of multiple criminal syndicates in recent months.

The gang is also suspected to be behind other high-profile targeting attempts, including a recent firing incident outside actress Disha Patani’s residence in Bareilly.

Rahul linked to triple murder in Haryana

Further investigation revealed that Rahul, who sustained a gunshot injury during the encounter, is wanted in connection with a triple murder case in Yamunanagar, Haryana, dating back to December 2024. He was also previously arrested under the Arms Act in Bikaner, Rajasthan, where he had allegedly been sent on another contract killing assignment.

Sahil, on the other hand, has multiple cases of financial fraud and misconduct pending in Bhiwani and Sirsa courts, officials added.

Police sources said the two were recently redirected to Delhi after an earlier plot to target a prominent social media influencer in Mumbai and Bengaluru failed due to communication issues with their overseas handlers.
