Chennai: The TVK government is set to present its maiden Budget in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly on Wednesday amid heightened political tensions following the arrest of Opposition Leader Udhayanidhi Stalin.

Finance Minister N. Marie Wilson will present the Budget for the 2026–27 financial year in the Assembly at 10 am.

Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay had earlier directed officials to prepare a Budget that would set a benchmark for the state. Following a series of reviews of Tamil Nadu's financial position, the government is expected to announce several key initiatives.

Among the major highlights is the anticipated launch of "Vetri Tamilagam" (Prosperous Tamil Nadu), a long-term vision plan aimed at the state's development.

The Budget session is also expected to witness political drama, with the DMK reportedly planning to boycott the proceedings in protest against the arrest of Udhayanidhi Stalin.

Udhayanidhi was arrested on Tuesday in connection with an alleged double entendre remark referring to actor Trisha, which police said insulted her modesty. He was later released on station bail in Thanjavur after questioning.

The opposition is widely expected to stage a walkout or boycott the Budget presentation in the Assembly.
