Trinamool Congress Member of Parliament Mahua Moitra took to social media on Saturday to post a portion of her speech in Parliament that she claimed had been expunged by the Lok Sabha Speaker.
Taking to social media platform X, Mahua said, "'The 2024 General Elections saw egregious violations of the MCC by the BJP & specifically by the Prime Minister which an Eager & Compliant Commission blatantly ignored.' Saying it again since Lok Sabha has expunged it from my speech !"
She also shared a transcript of her speech made while participating in a debate on 75 years of the Indian Constitution and highlighted the portions that had been expunged.
During the discusssion, the TMC MP questioned the Election Commission's independence, noting two commissioners quit before their terms ended, and expressed concerns about compromised institutional bodies
She accused the Modi government of eroding the distinction between the ruling party and the state, undermining executive accountability and "killing our Constitution by a thousand cuts". She claimed that electoral malpractices, including voter disenfranchisement and biased campaign finance, gave the ruling party an unfair advantage.
Moitra emphasized that voter disenfranchisement has reached alarming levels in India, with targeted exclusion of minorities creating second-class citizens. She criticized the Citizenship (Amendment) Act as discriminatory and violative of the right to equality.
Additionally, Moitra attacked BJP-ruled states for "bulldozer justice", demolishing minority homes without due process, and suppressing free speech in Jammu and Kashmir after Article 370's abrogation. She labeled probe agencies like ED and CBI as "extortionist departments", citing her own experience with a "cooked-up case".
