Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay surprised commuters and delighted fans on Wednesday after boarding a Chennai Metro train to conduct a first-hand assessment of transit operations in the state capital.
A CM among commuters
Accompanied by senior officials, Chief Minister Vijay began his transit inspection at the Omandurar Metro station on Wednesday afternoon. Setting an example for public commuters, the CM personally purchased his travel ticket before boarding the train bound for the Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) headquarters at Nandanam.
The unexpected appearance of the actor-turned-politician inside the metro car sparked immense excitement among passengers, with fans attempting to catch a glimpse of the leader during his brief journey across the city.
On-site reviews and infrastructure expansion
The Metro ride forms part of a broader review initiative aimed at evaluating Chennai's public transport efficiency and monitoring ongoing transit infrastructure expansions.
According to official sources, Chief Minister Vijay's review itinerary includes further field visits to critical transit nodes, including inspections along the Porur–Poonamallee corridor and a review of active Metro Rail construction projects at the Kathipara junction.
