Gurugram (Haryana): Tennis player Radhika Yadav, 25, was cremated in Gurugram on Friday, a day after she was allegedly shot dead by her father Deepak Yadav. The incident, reportedly originated from a dispute over the tennis academy she was running, has sent shockwaves through the sports community.

Police have taken Deepak Yadav, who works in the rental property sector, into custody and placed him under one-day police remand for further questioning.

The postmortem report confirmed that Radhika sustained multiple gunshot wounds. "The postmortem of the deceased tennis player is completed. Four bullets were taken out from Radhika Yadav's body," said Dr Deepak Mathur, a member of the medical team that conducted the examination.

According to Gurugram Police PRO Sandeep Kumar, the father was upset with Radhika's decision to manage her own tennis academy in Sector 57. "The accused (Deepak Yadav) was unhappy with his daughter Radhika running her own Tennis Academy, and was asking her to shut the academy. The accused mentioned that they are financially prosperous people; therefore, he did not want Radhika to run any academy," Kumar said.

He added, "Despite being told not to run the academy, Radhika refused to stop working, which eventually and ultimately led to a huge disagreement. Going further, the accused got angry and shot his daughter with his licensed gun and killed her."

Police are also looking into a music video in which Radhika had appeared, though no link between the video and the murder has been established so far. Sources indicate that her father had earlier asked her to take it down from social media.
 

The investigation is still in its early stages.
