Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has commented on the arrest of actor Allu Arjun by Telangana police in connection with the tragic death of a woman during a stampede at the release event of the film Pushpa 2. Speaking at an event organized by Aaj Tak, the Chief Minister stated that the police were simply performing their duty. He added that it was Allu Arjun's unannounced visit to the theater for the premiere that led to the chaos and subsequent stampede.
On December 4, Allu Arjun arrived at Sandhya Theater in Hyderabad for the release of Pushpa 2. Following his visit, a stampede occurred, resulting in the death of a 39-year-old homemaker and injuries to her son. The actor was arrested by the police the following day but was later granted interim bail by the court. It is in this context that Revanth Reddy made his remarks.
“Allu Arjun did not merely come and leave after attending the movie premiere. He opened the sunroof of his car and greeted fans who were celebrating the movie's release. This is what caused the situation to spiral out of control,” Revanth Reddy said.
The Chief Minister also pointed out that while there have been many discussions about Allu Arjun’s arrest, no one has talked about the deceased woman or her family. “A poor family has lost one of its members. That woman’s son is still in the hospital, in a coma. He will now have to live without his mother. Actors are focused on earning money, but none of that benefits the poor,” the Chief Minister added.
Meanwhile, after being granted bail by the High Court, Allu Arjun has been released from jail. The Nampally Magistrate Court had initially remanded the actor to 14 days of judicial custody, but the Telangana High Court granted him interim bail within hours. The court highlighted that, despite being an actor, Allu Arjun has the rights and freedoms of any citizen. The interim bail was granted for four weeks. However, due to delays in receiving the order, the actor had to spend the night in jail. The interim bail order reportedly reached the Chanchalguda Jail Superintendent around 11 PM. Since jail rules do not permit releasing prisoners late at night, Allu Arjun spent one night in the prison’s A1 barrack, according to reports.
