
Nagpur: Tremors were felt in several districts of Maharashtra, including Nagpur, Gadchiroli, and Chandrapur, following an earthquake in Mulugu, Telangana, on Wednesday morning, according to officials.
The earthquake of 5.3 magnitude was recorded in Mulugu at 7.27 am, according to the National Center for Seismology.
In Nagpur, light tremors were recorded, with residents and sources from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) confirming the shocks. The tremors were also felt in Gadchiroli, a district located close to Telangana, as per the district information office.
In Chandrapur, mild tremors were experienced in parts of the city, including Ballarpur and other tehsils near the Telangana border. A district administration official confirmed these reports.
Chandrapur Collector Vinay Gowda appealed to residents not to panic, and asked them to stay vigilant and move to open spaces outside buildings if such tremors are felt again.
According to IMD officials, light tremors are typically felt within 200 to 300 km of an earthquake’s epicentre.
