Chennai: Tamil Nadu State Marketing Liquor Corporation (Tasmac) outlets have decided to introduce a bottle buy-back scheme for customers in city and suburban circles by March.
As per the scheme, a refund of Rs 10 will be given to customers who return empty alcohol bottles to Tasmac.
Tasmac will charge an additional Rs 10 more than the actual MRP, and the same will be used in the buy-back scheme. A counter to collect the empty bottles will be set up soon in various Tasmac liquor shops.
This initiative is in the state's interest to reduce pollution and environmental issues caused by littering bottles.
The tenders for the collection of empty bottles from retail vending stores in each of the seven Tasmac districts of Chennai have already been floated by Tasmac, and the bidding will start on February 28.
