Mullaperiyar Samiti urges Kerala to hold firm on demand for new dam.

Upputhara, Kerala: The Mullaperiyar Samara Samiti, the Kerala-based protest forum known for its mobilisation efforts concerning the Mullaperiyar dam, has urged the Kerala government to stand firm on its demand made to the Supervisory Committee—constructing a new dam at Mullaperiyar.
According to the protest forum, Tamil Nadu’s demand to strengthen the existing dam exposes the latter’s fear arising from concerns over its deteriorating condition. The forum claimed that this is why the Supervisory Committee had rightly ignored Tamil Nadu’s request.
The protest forum leaders urged that Kerala must not repeat the mistakes of the past concerning Mullaperiyar. They warned that any lapse on the part of Kerala would invite strong public protests.
