The Regional Meteorological Centre, Chennai, has issued a rain alert for southern Tamil Nadu, forecasting heavy showers.

Chennai: The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Chennai has forecast heavy rainfall at one or two locations in Tirunelveli, Tenkasi, and Kanyakumari districts of Tamil Nadu on Tuesday.
According to the latest bulletin, parts of Ramanathapuram and Thoothukudi districts are also likely to experience moderate to heavy rainfall on Wednesday, November 12.
The RMC said that isolated areas in southern Tamil Nadu could witness intense showers accompanied by thunder and lightning, triggered by moisture-laden winds from the southwest interacting with local heat conditions. The activity is expected to persist for the next 48 hours, particularly across the coastal belt and adjoining hilly regions.
Meanwhile, Chennai is expected to experience partly cloudy skies throughout the day. The weather office forecast light to moderate rain with thunderstorms in some parts of the city, especially during the evening and night hours.
“The sky condition in Chennai will remain partly cloudy. Light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning may occur in a few localities,” the RMC said.
The maximum temperature in Chennai is expected to hover around 32°C, while the minimum will range between 25°C and 26°C. High coastal humidity levels will likely result in a warm and sticky feel during daytime hours.
The department has advised the public and local administrations in southern districts to stay alert for sudden heavy showers and to avoid waterlogged or low-lying areas.
Farmers and fishermen have also been urged to closely monitor meteorological updates before engaging in agricultural or sea-bound activities.
With the northeast monsoon remaining active, intermittent rains are expected across several parts of Tamil Nadu through the week, bringing relief to dry areas, but also posing a risk of localised flooding in certain regions.
