Massive blaze triggers twin explosions in Surat’s Kapodra, killing two and injuring over 11, probe into fire safety lapses begins

A devastating fire at an embroidery factory in Surat’s Kapodra area turned deadly after two LPG cylinders exploded, leaving at least two people dead and more than 11 injured.
The blaze broke out suddenly near Rachana Circle and spread rapidly across the building, sparking panic among workers. As flames intensified, two gas cylinders inside the factory exploded in quick succession, sending shockwaves through the surrounding area and worsening the damage.
Workers scrambled to escape as thick smoke engulfed the premises. Emergency teams rushed to the site soon after receiving the alert, launching a large-scale rescue operation. Firefighters managed to evacuate over 11 workers from the building and rushed the injured to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Given the intensity of the fire, more than ten fire engines from seven fire stations were deployed. After hours of continuous firefighting efforts, officials were able to bring the blaze under control.
Preliminary findings suggest that the explosions significantly contributed to the casualties. However, the exact cause of the fire remains unclear. Authorities are investigating whether a short circuit or another factor triggered the incident.
The tragedy has once again raised serious concerns over fire safety compliance in industrial units across the city.
