Sonam Wangchuk's handwritten letter lists three conditions to end his hunger strike

New Delhi: Climate activist Sonam Wangchuk has said he will end his hunger strike only if the government and political leaders meet three key demands, which he outlined in a handwritten letter shared from Delhi's Safdarjung Hospital.

Wangchuk, who has been on a hunger strike for more than 20 days, claimed in the letter that he was under "illegal detention" at the hospital after being removed from the protest site at Jantar Mantar.

His first demand is that the government accepts responsibility for what he described as failures in the country's education system, particularly the alleged irregularities surrounding the NEET question paper leak.

Secondly, he called on political leaders to assure him that the issue of the paper leak would be raised in Parliament.

His third condition is that senior political leaders visit him at Safdarjung Hospital and personally assure him that the first two demands will be addressed, particularly if his health does not allow him to participate in the planned march to Parliament.

Wangchuk has been demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the controversy surrounding the NEET examination and has urged his supporters to make the Parliament march a "big success".

The activist joined the Cockroach Janta Party's (CJP) protest at Delhi's Jantar Mantar on June 28 and began his indefinite hunger strike to highlight issues affecting students and the education system.

On July 18, the 21st day of his fast, Delhi Police shifted Wangchuk from the protest site to Safdarjung Hospital after the Delhi High Court directed authorities to take necessary steps to protect his life.
