Sivakasi: Three workers were killed and an equal number injured in a powerful blast at a private fireworks manufacturing unit in Naranapuram, Sivakasi district, Tamil Nadu, on Monday afternoon. Police reported that the explosion, believed to be triggered by the friction of chemicals, occurred around 3:50 PM while the workers were engaged in cracker production.
Upon receiving the distress call, emergency services, including police and fire and rescue personnel, swiftly responded to the scene, bringing the blaze under control. The three deceased workers succumbed to their injuries on the spot. The injured individuals were immediately transported to Sivakasi Government Hospital for treatment. Authorities have registered a case and launched an investigation into the incident to ascertain the exact cause and any potential negligence.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin expressed his profound shock and sorrow over the tragic loss of lives. In a statement, he conveyed his deepest condolences to the bereaved families and announced a solatium (ex-gratia payment) package of Rs 4 lakh each for the families of the deceased, Rs 1 lakh each for those seriously injured and undergoing hospital treatment, and Rs 50,000 each for those with minor injuries also receiving medical care.
