Dehradun: A case has been registered against Haryanvi singer Masoom Sharma for allegedly using inappropriate and offensive language during a college event in Dehradun, police confirmed on Monday.

According to Pramod Kumar, Superintendent of Police (City), the action was taken after videos of the incident circulated widely on social media. A formal complaint was also submitted by Pranchal Nauni, who represents the ‘Satyam Shivam’ student organisation at the college.

Based on these inputs, a case was officially registered against the singer on Sunday.

Allegations of hurting public sentiments

The complaint stated that the incident occurred during a programme held on Saturday at DAV College, organised by the students’ union. It alleged that Sharma’s remarks from the stage were indecent and offensive, and that they hurt the sentiments of both students and members of the public present at the venue.

Legal action and investigation underway

Police have registered a case under Sections 296, 352, 79, and 351(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Authorities have confirmed that an investigation into the matter has already begun.

Political presence at the event

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami had attended the event earlier but left before the alleged incident took place. Meanwhile, Umesh Sharma Kau was present at the venue when the incident occurred.
