New Delhi: In a significant lapse in security, a sport utility vehicle driven by a masked person broke through one of the boundary gates of the Delhi Assembly premises on Monday afternoon. After entering the complex, the driver reportedly left a flower bouquet outside the office of Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta before exiting through the same route.

According to officials, the vehicle, which carried a Uttar Pradesh registration number, forced its way through Gate No. 2 at approximately 2 pm. As this is not the main entrance, security presence is comparatively lower when the Assembly is not in session, sources indicated.

A Delhi Secretariat official stated that the driver proceeded towards the Speaker’s office, placed the bouquet near the porch, and quickly fled the premises in the same vehicle.

Following the incident, several police teams rushed to the location, accompanied by a bomb disposal squad. A comprehensive search of the area was carried out to eliminate any possible threat.

Authorities have issued a high alert across the capital in response to what is being treated as a serious security breach. A police officer confirmed that all necessary precautions were being taken to ensure safety.

Investigation underway

Senior officials, including Special Commissioner of Police for Law and Order, Ravindra Yadav, arrived at the scene shortly after the incident and oversaw the ongoing investigation.

Police personnel are currently reviewing CCTV footage from multiple cameras within and around the Assembly premises in an effort to piece together the sequence of events. Officers were observed closely examining the visuals to identify the vehicle and extract details such as its registration number to trace ownership and movement.

Multiple teams have been formed to locate the vehicle and apprehend those involved. Alerts have also been issued to neighbouring states, with details of the suspected car circulated among local police units. Authorities have requested immediate information if the vehicle is sighted elsewhere.

The episode has triggered serious concerns regarding security arrangements at the Assembly. Officials noted that it comes shortly after bomb threats were reported during the recently concluded budget session, adding to the gravity of the situation.

Forensic examination in progress

Meanwhile, forensic experts have reached the site and begun analysing the flower bouquet that was allegedly placed within the premises. The bomb disposal squad, along with a dog squad, conducted a thorough sweep to rule out any explosive risk.
