Mumbai: Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Nirupam has raised concerns about Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan’s swift recovery after he was discharged from Mumbai’s Lilavati Hospital just five days following a brutal knife attack. Khan, who was seriously injured during a burglary attempt at his Bandra home, was seen walking out of the hospital, which prompted Nirupam to question his fitness.
The actor was attacked by an intruder on January 16, who stabbed him in the neck and spine. He suffered six wounds, two of which were deep, due to which he underwent a five-hour surgery to treat a spinal injury and received plastic surgery to repair wounds on his neck and hands. After the surgery, he was shifted to the ICU for recovery.
According to doctors, the knife had penetrated 2.5 inches into Khan’s back, and the operation lasted six hours. Nirupam expressed surprise at Khan's quick recovery, pointing out that he had been discharged just five days after the attack.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Nirupam shared a video of Khan walking unaided, waving to fans, and accompanied by heavy security. “The doctors said that the knife had penetrated 2.5 inches inside Saif Ali Khan's back. Probably he was trapped inside. The operation continued for six hours continuously. All this happened on January 16. Today is January 21. So fit as soon as you got out of the hospital? In just 5 days? Wonderful!”
Khan was advised complete bed rest for a week to avoid infections and was instructed not to receive visitors. However, he appeared to be in good health as he made his way back to his Bandra home, which was heavily guarded by police.
Khan’s wife, actress Kareena Kapoor Khan, was seen at the hospital shortly before his discharge. The actor’s swift recovery has sparked questions, with Nirupam’s post drawing attention to the surprising speed of his recovery given the severity of the attack.
The police have arrested the intruder, identified as Shariful Islam Shehzad Mohammad Rohilla Amin Fakir, a 30-year-old Bangladeshi national. Fakir, who is currently in police custody, allegedly stabbed the actor multiple times in the back during the attempted burglary. According to authorities, Fakir had been trapped by Khan’s grip and used the knife to free himself. After the attack, he escaped and hid in the garden of the building for around two hours before being apprehended by the police.
Despite the shocking attack, Khan was fortunate to avoid severe long-term injuries, and his discharge from the hospital marks a swift recovery from a traumatic incident.
