In a surprising turn of events, a planned trip to Bangkok by Rishiraj Sawant, the son of former Maharashtra minister Tanaji Sawant, was abruptly cut short after police filed a kidnapping case based on an anonymous tip. The 32-year-old, along with two friends, had booked a chartered flight to the Thai capital without informing his family, sparking concern when the authorities received an alarming call.
At around 4 pm on Monday, an anonymous call to the police control room claimed that Rishiraj had been taken away by unidentified individuals. In response, the police quickly sprang into action and registered a kidnapping case. Joint Commissioner of Police, Ranjan Kumar Sharma, briefed the media about the developments. “Upon investigation, we discovered that Rishiraj and his friends had planned the trip without informing their family. We tracked the chartered flight they had booked and contacted the airline to return the plane to Pune,” he explained.
The flight, which had cost Rs 78 lakh, was instructed to return to Pune, and the three passengers, including Rishiraj, were safely brought back. The police are now looking into the reasons behind the unannounced trip and why Rishiraj did not communicate his travel plans with his parents.
Tanaji Sawant, who was present during the police briefing, clarified that there was no conflict with his son. He stated that he had only learned about Rishiraj’s unplanned departure when his son left for the airport with his friends. The former minister added that Rishiraj had travelled to Dubai the previous week, but that trip was communicated to the family in advance.
While the situation was initially treated as a possible kidnapping, it was later revealed that it was simply an unnotified trip, leading to an unexpected and swift intervention by the police. The authorities are continuing their investigation to understand the reasons behind the sudden trip and whether any further concerns need to be addressed.
