From enjoying serene balcony views of the Bay of Bengal and Buckingham Canal to communal mealtimes with the family’s dogs, Alex is living a truly unique life

Chennai: This bull calf lives on the 28th floor of a high-rise apartment in Chennai.
Alex’s journey from the streets to the skies began when he was rescued by architectural designer Thejaswini S Rangan. He was just a month-and-a-half old when he was struck by a speeding vehicle while crossing a road in Neelankarai.
“We found him. His limbs were badly bleeding. His back was swollen. We brought him home immediately and gave him first aid. We gave him good rest and security. He has now blossomed into a fantastic calf,” Thejaswini shared in a video posted by animal rescuer and activist Sai Vignesh, who documented the story on Instagram.
Now lovingly known as Mr. Alex Pandian, a nod to Rajinikanth’s iconic character in ‘Moondru Mugam’, the young calf enjoys a life most can only dream of. “Look at his swag, man. He is the coolest calf ever. When he first came walking towards us, because of the injuries, he kept moving on the side with his head tilted. It looked exactly like how Alex Pandian moves. So we decided he deserves a Thalaivar name,” said Thejaswini.
Alex’s personality is as charming as his story. “He is very, very special to me. I have seen many bull calves before. They are all very naughty and sassy. But this boy is such a gentleman. He doesn’t headbutt, he doesn’t kick. He loves cuddles, from us and the dogs too,” she added.
From enjoying serene balcony views of the Bay of Bengal and Buckingham Canal to communal mealtimes with the family’s dogs, Alex is living a truly unique life. “The minute we bring anything home for him (like Napier grass), all the dogs line up and they all eat together. It’s like a community table. It’s so cute to see them do that,” said Rangan.
Social media users have been smitten. “This proves that pets are not only dogs and cats. Hope everyone sees animals as babies,” commented one user. Another added, “Alex is such a handsome fellow, truly adorable. Hats off to you, great work, God bless.” One simply called it “literally the cutest thing I’ve ever seen.”
