Rahul Gandhi criticised Delhi University over its advisory asking students to avoid Jantar Mantar protests, accusing the varsity of threatening their democratic rights.
New Delhi: Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Friday criticised the University of Delhi for advising students to stay away from demonstrations at Jantar Mantar, accusing the university of threatening students for exercising their democratic rights.
Sharing the university's advisory on X, Gandhi said, "How dare you threaten students for exercising their democratic rights? Please note, you are the ones that will be held accountable when the time comes."

The University of Delhi had urged students and faculty members to avoid participating in "unlawful assemblies or demonstrations" at Jantar Mantar. It warned that such activities could lead to legal action and potentially affect students' safety, academic careers and future professional prospects.
"Dear students and faculty, your safety matters to us. Please note that any unlawful assemblies or demonstrations at Jantar Mantar, New Delhi, which are strictly regulated as per the directives of the Hon'ble Supreme Court of India, may invite legal action," the university said in its advisory.
The university also urged students to exercise caution, claiming that a significant amount of "fake and misleading content" was being circulated to fuel the situation.
Gandhi's comments came amid ongoing protests over the NEET-UG paper leak and demands for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
Earlier on Friday, Gandhi also criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi over a video message in which the prime minister promised stricter action against those involved in examination paper leaks. Gandhi demanded Pradhan's removal, action against those accused of assaulting protesting students and an apology.
"Mr Modi, our students are demanding Dharmendra Pradhan's resignation. Don't insult their intelligence with this pathetic midnight video," Gandhi said.
Meanwhile, the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) has said its protest at Jantar Mantar will continue until Pradhan resigns.
CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke said, "Our protest will continue until Dharmendra Pradhan resigns." Spokesperson Deepak Balyan also said the youth would not be "fooled" by government assurances on fast-track courts.
