Actor Prakash Raj gets bail in the alleged multiple voter ID case after a Bengaluru court recalled the non-bailable warrant issued against him.

Bengaluru: Actor Prakash Raj appeared before a Bengaluru court on Friday in connection with a case alleging possession of multiple voter identity cards. The court had earlier issued a non-bailable warrant against him after he failed to appear.
The 48th Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM) Court recalled the warrant and granted bail to the actor after hearing arguments from his lawyers. Prakash Raj was granted bail on furnishing a cash surety of Rs 4,000.

During the hearing, Raj’s lawyers sought the recall of the non-bailable warrant, arguing that the summons issued by the court had not been served on the actor.
The counsel told the court that they became aware of the proceedings only through media reports and other sources. After considering the submissions, the court allowed the application and recalled the warrant.
Case related to alleged multiple voter IDs
The case dates back to 2019, when advocate Dileep Kumar filed a complaint at the Halasuru Gate Police Station in Bengaluru, alleging that Prakash Raj possessed voter identity cards in multiple states.
The complaint claimed that the actor had voter IDs in states including Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Telangana, which would be a violation of election rules if proven.
The complainant alleged that no action was taken by the police and later approached the Election Commission of India and Bengaluru City Police Commissioner. After receiving no response, he moved the court.
What election rules say
According to Election Commission regulations, a person can be registered as a voter at only one location in India.
The complaint alleged that Raj violated these rules by holding multiple voter identity cards.
The court had reportedly issued summons to the actor on two occasions asking him to appear. But he failed to attend the hearings, following which the non-bailable warrant was issued.
With Prakash Raj appearing before the court on Friday, the warrant was withdrawn and the actor was granted bail.
