A police head constable was injured after suspected terrorists opened fire on a police party in Jammu and Kashmir's Anantnag town on Wednesday afternoon, prompting security forces to launch a large-scale operation to trace the attackers.

According to officials, the firing occurred at around 12.30 pm in the Lal Chowk area of Anantnag. The police personnel, identified as a head constable who was deployed on duty, sustained injuries during the attack.

The injured policeman was immediately shifted to the Government Medical College (GMC) Hospital in Anantnag for treatment. Officials have not yet released details about his condition.

Soon after the incident, security forces cordoned off the surrounding area and began a search operation to locate the assailants, who fled after opening fire. Additional security personnel have been deployed as searches continue.

Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the attack, and further details are awaited. No group has claimed responsibility for the firing so far.
