New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday extended greetings to the personnel of the Indian Navy, describing the maritime force as synonymous with exceptional courage, determination, and dedication to safeguarding India’s maritime interests.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), PM Modi highlighted the Navy’s focus on self-reliance and modernisation, which has strengthened India’s maritime security and defence capabilities.

“Navy Day greetings to all personnel of the Indian Navy. Our Navy is synonymous with exceptional courage and determination. They safeguard our shores and uphold our maritime interests. In recent years, our Navy has focused on self-reliance and modernisation. This has enhanced our security apparatus. ” PM Modi wrote.

Recalling Diwali 2025 spent aboard INS Vikrant, India’s indigenously built aircraft carrier, PM Modi said, “I can never forget this year’s Diwali, which I spent with Naval personnel on board INS Vikrant. Wishing the Indian Navy the very best for their endeavours ahead,” accompanied by a video from the aircraft carrier.

Earlier in October, PM Modi had also celebrated Diwali aboard INS Vikrant in Panaji, Goa, marking his 11-year tradition of celebrating the festival with the armed forces, whom he refers to as “his family.”

Meanwhile, on Wednesday, the Indian Navy showcased its operational prowess and technological excellence through a spectacular Operational Demonstration at Shangumugham Beach, Thiruvananthapuram. The event highlighted the Navy’s combat readiness, maritime capabilities, and contribution to national security, reinforcing India’s growing status as a self-reliant maritime power.

The demonstration was attended by President Droupadi Murmu, hosted by Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi, Chief of the Naval Staff. A 150-member ceremonial Guard of Honour was presented to the Chief Guest. Other dignitaries included Kerala Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, senior central and state officials, military leaders, and a large gathering of the public.

India celebrates Navy Day annually on December 4 to honour the Indian Navy’s service and commemorate its historic achievements, particularly Operation Trident during the 1971 Indo-Pak War.
