New Delhi: In a heated exchange ahead of the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday slammed the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) as an "aapda" (disaster) that has gripped Delhi for the past 10 years. Speaking at an event to inaugurate key development projects in the city, Modi took a direct jab at Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, claiming that the AAP government had failed to deliver on its promises and had only worsened the situation in the national capital.

Modi accused the AAP of corruption in various sectors, including education, healthcare, pollution control, and the liquor trade, and criticized Kejriwal for his alleged extravagant spending on his official residence. Referring to Kejriwal’s former home as a "Sheesh Mahal," Modi mocked the Delhi CM for his lavish lifestyle while the people of Delhi suffered.

In response, Kejriwal fired back at the Prime Minister, claiming that it was the BJP that was facing a real "aapda" in Delhi due to its lack of a Chief Ministerial candidate, a coherent narrative, and any substantial issues for the upcoming elections. He also took a swipe at Modi’s remarks about his residence, pointing out the Prime Minister’s own lavish spending on a new house and a luxury plane.

Kejriwal, who has been leading the AAP in Delhi for several years, asserted that the AAP government had been working for the welfare of the people, unlike the BJP, which he accused of indulging in personal attacks and abusive politics. He emphasized that the initiatives taken by his government, such as improvements in education and healthcare, were a blessing for the people of Delhi, despite the BJP’s portrayal of them as failures.

As the political battle intensifies, both parties have sharpened their rhetoric, with Modi calling for the defeat of AAP in the upcoming elections and raising slogans like "Aapda ko nahi sahenge, badal kar rahenge" (We will not tolerate 'aapda', we will remove it). Meanwhile, Kejriwal urged the BJP to focus on resolving Delhi’s law and order issues instead of engaging in personal attacks and attempting to poach opposition leaders.

The political confrontation comes just weeks before the Delhi Assembly elections, with both parties trying to sway voters with contrasting visions for the future of the city. While Modi and the BJP continue to attack the AAP for its governance, Kejriwal and his party are focusing on their achievements and the promises of a better future for Delhi.
