Over a dozen vehicles, including cars and trucks, were involved in a major pile-up on the Noida Expressway on Saturday morning as dense fog and smog drastically reduced visibility across Delhi-NCR. The accident resulted in a long traffic jam on the busy stretch and left several people injured.

The collision occurred on the Eastern Peripheral Expressway, also known as the Kundli-Ghaziabad-Palwal (KGP) Expressway—a 135-km, six-lane corridor passing through Haryana and Uttar Pradesh. Watch the video below:

Visuals from the accident site show severe damage to multiple vehicles. A white car was seen mounted on the divider with its bonnet completely crushed, while a truck stood nearby. Another car appeared wedged under a truck, indicating a chain reaction crash caused by poor visibility in thick smog.

Police and toll management teams rushed to the spot and began clearing the damaged vehicles using cranes to restore traffic movement. Responding to videos circulating on social media, the Gautam Buddh Nagar (Noida) Police Commissionerate confirmed that police personnel were present at the scene and that an investigation was underway.

“In the said case, the police force is present at the scene, and necessary actions are being taken,” the Police Commissionerate said in a post on X (formerly Twitter). Authorities are yet to confirm the exact number of vehicles involved or the total number of people injured in the accident.

Meanwhile, residents across Delhi-NCR woke up to a thick blanket of smog on Saturday, leading to poor visibility on roads. Noida’s Sector 125, located close to the expressway, recorded an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 449 at noon, placing it in the ‘severe’ category, according to data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).

In response to the hazardous conditions, the Gautam Buddh Nagar Traffic Police issued revised speed guidelines. On the Yamuna Expressway, light vehicles are restricted to 75 kmph and heavy vehicles to 60 kmph. Similar limits apply on the Noida–Greater Noida Expressway, while on the Noida elevated road, speed limits have been capped at 50 kmph for light vehicles and 40 kmph for heavy vehicles.
