Chattisgarh: Officials in Chhattisgarh’s Jashpur district have clarified that there is no evidence of any plane crash, after viral videos of smoke and images of an aircraft sparked panic and misinformation on social media.

Local authorities, including the district collector and senior police officials, immediately rushed to the Narayanpur hills area after reports of a suspected crash surfaced. A joint search operation involving police, forest department teams, and drone surveillance was carried out.

However, officials confirmed that no wreckage, debris, or signs of an aircraft accident were found during the inspection.

Forest fire identified as source of smoke

According to forest department officials, the smoke seen in the viral footage was caused by a forest fire, which has since been brought under control. They noted that such fires are common in the region during summer months.

Authorities also contacted Air Traffic Control units in neighbouring states, which confirmed that no aircraft had gone missing or reported an emergency in the area.

Officials stated that no local residents reported hearing any explosion, further weakening claims of a crash. Continuous monitoring and drone surveillance are still underway as a precautionary measure.

District officials have urged the public and media to verify information before circulating unconfirmed reports, especially those involving sensitive incidents like aircraft accidents.

As of now, the administration has officially confirmed that there is no evidence supporting the claim of a plane crash in Jashpur.
