New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Atishi Marlena Singh submitted her resignation to Lt. Governor V.K. Saxena on Sunday, officials close to the development told PTI.

Earlier, reports had emerged that the AAP leader would step down from office on Sunday morning.

Atishi was sworn in as eighth chief minister of Delhi on September 21, 2024 after AAP’s national convenor, Arvind Kejriwal, stepped down on September 17, stating he would not return to the role unless the people of Delhi re-elected him with a “certificate of honesty.” She became the third woman to hold the post.

A key strategist for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Atishi won the Kalkaji seat, defeating BJP’s Ramesh Bidhuri by a margin of 3,521 votes. However, the assembly election results proved to be a major setback for AAP, with senior leaders Manish Sisodia, Satender Jain, and Arvind Kejriwal himself losing their seats.

Meanwhile, discussions are ongoing behind closed doors at the BJP headquarters regarding the selection of Delhi's new chief minister. Following the landslide victory that marked the BJP's return to power in Delhi after more than two decades, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed party workers on Saturday evening.
