New Delhi: A large crowd of passengers gathered at platform numbers 12 and 13 of New Delhi Railway Station on Sunday night, following delays to several major trains, including the Shiv Ganga Express, Swatantrata Senani Express, Jammu Rajdhani Express, Lucknow Mail, and Magadh Express. The delays led to severe congestion at the platforms, causing a stampede-like atmosphere, reminiscent of the crowd management challenges seen during the Mahakumbh arrangements in the past.
Authorities quickly implemented crowd control measures to manage the situation and prevent any untoward incidents. Delhi Police reported that, despite the chaos, no injuries were sustained during the incident.
In a statement, the Ministry of Railways clarified, "There was a heavy rush at New Delhi Railway Station, but there was no stampede or stampede-like situation. The protocol of guiding unreserved passengers through the holding area is being followed to ensure safety."
The situation prompted further scrutiny of crowd management procedures at the station, highlighting the need for enhanced measures during peak travel times.
