Ahmedabad: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for various projects worth Rs 8,000 crore in Ahmedabad on Monday. The highlight of the event was the flagging off of the Namo Bharat Rapid Rail, which includes the first Vande Bharat metro service and five Vande Bharat express trains.
The Namo Bharat Rapid Rail, designed to enhance intercity connectivity, will cover the 359 km distance from Bhuj to Ahmedabad in just 5 hours and 45 minutes, making stops at nine stations along the way. Regular service for the public will commence on September 17 from Ahmedabad, with a total journey fare of Rs 455.
According to the Railway Ministry, unlike other metro systems that serve shorter routes, the Namo Bharat Rapid Rail connects Ahmedabad with its peripheral cities, featuring 12 coaches with seating for 1,150 passengers. The train boasts a range of innovative features, including ergonomically designed seats, fully air-conditioned cabins, and modular interiors, marking a significant upgrade from traditional suburban trains and metro coaches.
The modular design of the Rapid Rail includes ejector-based vacuum evacuation toilets, offering a more advanced travel experience. The train’s rapid acceleration and deceleration contribute to efficient mid-distance travel, while driving cabs at both ends eliminate turnaround time. (Agencies)
