New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday presented several gifts, including beautiful sculptures of the Buddha, handicrafts, and other exquisite items, to his Laos counterpart, its President and their spouses.
The gifts followed a bilateral meeting between the two Prime Ministers, underlining the two nations’ resolve to strengthen Indo-Laos civilisational and contemporary ties.
Gift to the Lao President was Serene Enlightenment: Vintage Brass Buddha with Mina Work
This vintage brass Buddha statue from Tamil Nadu showcases intricate mina (enamel) work, blending South Indian craftsmanship with Buddhist philosophy. The mina (or meenakari) enamel work on this statue adds vibrant colours and intricate patterns to the brass base. The Patan Patola, a Double Ikat textile woven by the Salvi family in Northern Gujarat, is renowned for its vibrant colours and intricate design, with the front and back indistinguishable. Derived from the Sanskrit word "Pattu," meaning silk fabric, Patola dates back to ancient times. It is packed in a ‘Sadeli’ box, an exquisite woodcraft from Surat, featuring geometric inlay patterns. The Sadeli craft, with its rich history, continues to fascinate admirers with its detailed artistry and timeless appeal.
