Aligarh (UP): A 40-year-old man in Uttar Pradesh's Aligarh, who had reported his wife missing, was stunned to discover that she had eloped after spotting her in a video taken at the Taj Mahal with another man.

Shakir, a resident of Aligarh, lodged a missing person report on April 18, stating that his wife Anjum had been untraceable since April 15. According to Rorawar Station House Officer (SHO) Shiv Shankar Gupta, Shakir had returned from a family wedding to find his house locked and his wife and four children missing.

"In his complaint, Shakir said neighbours told him that his wife had left the house with all their valuables before anyone could stop her," Gupta said.

After days of searching and no leads, Shakir turned to the police. The twist came when a relative showed him a video Anjum had shared on WhatsApp, in which she was seen visiting the Taj Mahal with an unidentified man.

Shakir recognised the man from the commercial area where he worked.

"Preliminary findings suggest that Anjum and the man formed a relationship and chose to elope while Shakir was away," the SHO said. The district police have alerted authorities in Agra and a search is underway to trace her.
