Mumbai: A 32-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly driving his car with a woman clinging to the bonnet after an argument, resulting in her falling and sustaining injuries in Borivali West, police said on Saturday.

The accused, identified as Vinit Ghiya, has been charged with rash driving and assault, according to a senior police official.

Preliminary investigation revealed that Ghiya and the woman, who works at a spa, had become acquainted only a few days ago. On Thursday, the two reportedly went out partying at a pub and were returning home when a heated argument broke out inside the car.

During the altercation, Ghiya allegedly snatched the woman’s mobile phone, prompting her to get out of the vehicle and sit on the bonnet in protest. The accused then drove the car at high speed with the woman still on the bonnet, causing her to lose balance and fall onto the road, the official said.

Both the accused and the victim were reportedly intoxicated at the time of the incident.

Local residents rushed to help the injured woman and took her to a nearby hospital for treatment, police added.

Following the incident, Ghiya was arrested and produced before a local court, which remanded him to police custody.
